Biennial, grown as an annual: sow seed sparingly 1.5cm deep in rows 30cm apart. Do not transplant.

As seedlings grow, gradually thin out to a spacing of 10cm, pulling up alternate plants once roots are just bigger than a squash ball.

Harvest the mature beetroot when no larger than a tennis ball.
